Visiting Cleveland

Can you spell Cuyahoga correctly? Well, if you aren’t from Cleveland, you probably can’t. There was a huge tomayto/tomahto debate about how to pronounce Cuyahoga correctly back in 2009 when a news reporter pronounced it “Cuyahawga”. Only a Clevelander understands the importance of pronouncing it correctly. Maybe that is the reason why the reporter received tons of emails from the Cuyahoga crowd. It might sound stupid for you to hear about a debate like this, but for Clevelanders it’s the matter of pride. It’s the specialty of the people in Cleveland, “the wonderful people”.

Downtown Cleveland
This beautiful city, also referred as “The Forest City”, is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie in Northern Ohio. The architecture of Cleveland’s downtown is diverse. Most of the city’s government buildings share neoclassical architecture whereas “The terminal tower”, completed in 1928 and two newer skyscrapers, the 200 Public Square and Key tower (also the tallest building in Ohio) combine elements of postmodern architecture and Art Deco designs. Likewise, “The Arcade” built in 1890 is another addition to Cleveland’s architectural treasures. It was redeveloped in 2001 by the Hyatt Corporation as the first Hyatt Regency hotel of Cleveland. The absolutely stunning and sleek modern design can tempt any visitor to hold back for a second and stare at the landmarks.  Needless to say, the beauty of Cleveland is well capable to blow your mind.

Clevelanders celebrating St. Patrick's day
If you’re visiting Cleveland, make sure you visit University Circle, five miles east of downtown Baltimore. It’s an amazing 550 acre concentration of educational, medical and cultural institutions that includes Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Botanical Garden, hospitals and much more. A few other neighboring attractions include the Great Lakes Science Center, the Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Steamship Mather Museum and the USS COD, a World War II submarine.  Apart from the attractions, Cleveland is also home to several festivals that are celebrated throughout the year. Saint Patrick’s Day is probably the most famous holiday in Cleveland even though the people aren’t Irish. Hundreds of thousands of people show up to the streets of downtown as an annual parade to celebrate the festival. Fashion Week Cleveland, an annual fashion event that is considered to be the best in Midwest is also one of the few fashion industry happenings in North America, which is internationally recognized. In fact it’s second only to New York in the US. Some other events include the “Feast of the assumption”, “the harvest festival” and recently “Cleveland Asian Festival” is drawing attention from lots of tourists.

If you’re a sports freak, Cleveland has plenty to offer. Cleveland’s professional sports teams include the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), Lake Erie Monsters (hockey), Cleveland Browns (Football), Cleveland Crush (Lingerie Football League) and Cleveland Indians (Baseball). However, Cleveland has earned itself a reputation of being a cursed sports city due to its failure to win any major trophy in professional sport since 1964. Huge controversy that saw the Browns relocate themselves to Baltimore led to a major heartbreak among local fans. Clevelanders hate Baltimore ever since.

Accommodation won’t be a problem for any visitor in Cleveland.  There are plenty of hotels and motels that offer accommodation in an affordable cost. Cleveland Ohio hotel offer quality accommodation to their clients and also offer discounts to people visiting Cleveland for vacation. The prices will vary from hotel to hotel and according to the services you want so one can plan his budget accordingly. Almost all hotels have their own personal website so you’re just a reservation away from booking the hotel of your choice. A good planning would be recommended before you pack your bags. Knowledge of the place you’re visiting would be helpful. So first know the facts then pack your bags…
